Fred Zeppelin
Sundays 10am-6pm
I’m a Mainer, born in Bar Harbor and I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s living in Hermon, Cooper, Glenburn, Franklin, Eddington and Hampden. I fell in love with the radio at a young age listening to it all day as I raked blueberries in Columbia Falls, Aurora and on Copeland Hill in Holden. I used to sit by the radio in my spare time with my Dad’s push button cassette recorder and bug the local DJs to play songs for me so I could record them. My first albums were the Beatles Red and Blue double album sets, ELO’s
A New World Record, Fleetwood Mac’s
Rumours, Queen’s
A Night at the Opera, and Alice Cooper’s
Greatest Hits Live. I wore out five copies of my favorite album, Pink Floyd’s
Dark Side of the Moon, before buying it on CD. Obviously I like Led Zeppelin a lot and begin all of my shows with a track from them. I did my first live radio show in November of 1981 at a college radio station. A friend of mine had gotten a gig there and when I called to ask how I could get a shift, they told me to just show up. I’ve been on the air ever since. Sunday is my favorite day of the week as I can come to WKIT and spend the day talking to our listeners and playing their favorite rock and roll.
