WKIT News: Police Affidavit Reveals New Details in Deputy Murder

Newly-released court documents have revealed additional information about what took place on the morning Somerset County Corporal Eugene Cole was shot to death.

According to the police affidavit, after his arrest, 29-year-old John Williams told detectives that Corporal Cole interrupted him as he was trying to enter a home in Norridgewock in the early morning hours of April 25th. He said he pulled a handgun from his waistband and advanced toward Cole, causing the Deputy to retreat backward, trip, and fall to the ground. Williams told detectives that’s when he shot Cole in the head. The documents also say Williams told police he was mad at Cole for arresting his girlfriend, and he didn’t want to go back to jail.
