WYMAN TOWNSHIP, Maine (AP) — Police say a pilot of a small plane said he was flying alongside another plane operated by a friend when he lost visibility and crashed into trees near Bigelow Mountain, north of Carrabasset Valley, Maine.

Police say pilot Frank Gibney and passenger Diane Muhr, both of Colchester, Vermont, were able to walk about from the crash on Thursday. They were not hurt, and hiked up the mountain for a half-mile and then onto the Appalachian Trail.

The other pilot notified the Maine Warden Service. Troopers and game wardens responded to the crash.

The couple was flying to the Greenville Seaplane Fly-In.
