Governor Paul LePage is reportedly floating a new tax on hospitals to pay for voter-approved Medicaid expansion.
Senate President Mike Thibodeau says he received word from the LePage Administration that the Governor is considering the idea. Thibodeau says such legislation would typically receive a public hearing. Mainers voted last Fall to expand Medicaid to over 70,000 low-income adults by July 2nd, but the expansion is on hold as LePage fights a lawsuit by advocates calling on him to stop blocking it.
