Stephen King’s “The Shining” is now an opera

Stephen King's best-selling novel comes to life in a suspenseful new opera.

We’re not kidding, the Minnesota Opera aims to scare the living daylights out of its audience. This month it premiered Stephen King’s “The Shining”, hoping the new genre will be a hit in operatic history. Librettist Mark Campbell and composer Paul Moravec began adapting “The Shining” as an opera three years ago and it is based on S.K.’s novel, not the Kubrick film, released in 1980. They also believe the musical connection created with the audience during the opera makes it even scarier than the film and TV adaptations. Also to be noted; King approved the libretto within a day of receiving the final version, according to Operavore.
